Robinson Street Underpass

Robinson Street Underpass ImageThe Robinson Street Underpass Project from 500 feet west of Flood Avenue to 500 feet east of Stubbeman Avenue is a $26 million street improvement project approved by the Norman voters as part of the 2005 Bond Election. Construction began on Monday, June 14, 2010. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is responsible for the construction of the project and the prime contractor is Manhattan Road and Bridge Construction Company of Oklahoma City.

The construction of the Robinson Street Underpass is approximately 70% complete including the completion of the storm water lift station, the permanent railroad bridge and the majority of the excavation of Robinson Street.

The schedule for the remaining construction activities is as follows:

  1. The contractor will compete the paving of Robinson Street and move traffic from the current temporary shoofly onto Robinson Street it by April, 2012.
  2. After traffic has moved onto Robinson Street, the contractor will remove the detour and block the westbound outside lane of Robinson Street to complete the construction of the retaining walls located on the north side of Robinson Street. This work will be complete by May, 2012.
  3. Simultaneous to item two above, the contractor will close Stubbeman Avenue in order to tie it into the new Robinson Street. This work will be complete by June, 2012.
  4. After Stubbeman Avenue is finished, the contractor will finish the work on Flood Avenue north of Robinson Street. This will complete all major work on this project by August, 2012, before the beginning of the new school year.
